Bilingualism at school
At Stepping Stones, language learning is conducted through immersion.
Teachers speak either French or English with the students, using only the language assigned to them.
Teachers in both languages are present during the Montessori sessions, which allows the child to choose their interlocutor, therefore avoiding the feeling of frustration with a language.
Teacher-led lessons and activities take place in small groups, with an equal number of hours taught in French and in English .
Our aim is that children acquire the languages intuitively. Therefore, our language learning strategies and teaching methods incorporate psychological, social and cognitive elements (see Excellence in Learning).
We ensure that all students achieve a comprehensive and structured understanding of each language.
